Register listing Métis scrip applicants under Treaty 8

The Treaty 8 Commission offered to compensate the Métis with money scrips. Their names (and their award) were recorded in registers, such as the one shown here.

Unfortunately, most Métis did not completely comprehend the scrip system and they opted to sell them ‘on the spot’ to representatives of the western banks. The buyers generally paid only a fraction of the scrip’s face value.
