Mr. Rodick's homesteads,
Brandon Hills, Manitoba
ca. 1910, by Horatio N. Topley
Photographs of old and new homesteads were favourites
with promoters of the Canadian West. By combining the
new with the old in a single image, such as this one
taken near Brandon, Manitoba, government promoters could
reinforce concepts of the Prairies as a place of development,
growth, and progress for the ambitious settler.
