Canadian government exhibit, Oklahoma State Fair
1913

Immigration to western Canada was actively promoted in American trade shows and farm exhibitions. Since the people attending these events usually had a rural background, it was thought that they would be somewhat more receptive than their urban counterparts to the idea of immigrating to western Canada. Such attempts at targeting specific audiences with a specific message were entirely new to advertising when Canada started its immigration campaign.
