IT 040 [Treaty 13] is a manuscript "true copy" treaty (termed an "Indenture") negotiated on September 23, 1787 at the Carrying Place on the Bay of Quinte, by Sir John Johnson, Superintendent of the Indian Department, and representatives of the Mississauga. The boundaries of the treaty were left blank, to be filled in later. The treaty boundaries were later defined by IT 038, the 1805 Toronto Purchase. One of the 1923 Williams Treaties that covered the north shore of Lake Ontario cleared up remaining discrepancies. IT 039 is a map of the 1805 Toronto Purchase.
