Sturgeon Lake Treaty Land Entitlement / Sturgeon Lake Band Settlement Agreement, 1989

The Sturgeon Lake agreement, signed in 1989, was one of the first specific claims to be settled in the Treaty 8 area. The agreement involves just one First Nation band in the Athabasca region and yet it contains 230 pages of legal text. The original treaty was less than ten pages and applied to the entire Athabasca region.
