Scope and content
Full length portrait of a negro man, holding his hat in one hand, and a branch (?) in another. Attributed to Lady Falkland, who was in Nova Scotia from 1840-46 when her husband was governor there. Nova Scotia had a relatively large negro population: approximately 3000 emigrated to Nova Scotia during and after the American Revolution, and 2000 after the War of 1812.
