Literary Archives

Individuals interested in literature, literary enthusiasts and researchers alike have an invaluable collection of unpublished materials at their disposal to learn more about writers, literary creation and the production of books in Canada. This collection also enables people to explore the relationships between the Canadian literary community and the various organizations chosen by writers to safeguard their interests.

The Literary Archives at Library and Archives Canada (LAC) hold the fonds and collections of writers, individuals and organizations active in the field of literature in Canada. Included in these fonds and collections are manuscripts, notebooks, typescripts, illustrations, galley proofs, correspondence, photographs, scrapbooks, newspaper clippings, audio and video recordings, and computer files.

The guide to the literary fonds at LAC serves as an introduction to the various unpublished resources in Canadian literature. It contains descriptions for the body of records that come from each writer, individual or organization working in the field of literature in Canada, and includes an alphabetical list providing access to literary fonds and collections at LAC.
