Bill of Indictment against J.S. Woodsworth
1919

While the 1919 Winnipeg General Strike stretched from spring into summer, Methodist minister and labour activist J.S. Woodsworth continued to edit the Western Labour News to ensure publication of the strikers' perspective and to expose the actions of the federal government and city officials. However, after the riot on June 21, 1919, Woodsworth was arrested for publishing "seditious libel" and the newspaper was shut down. This Bill of Indictment against Woodsworth summarizes the allegedly seditious articles.
