View of Medicine Hat, Alberta
ca. 1913, by Volding and Bolton

Panoramic photographs of western towns, such as this view of Medicine Hat were popular in the early decades of the twentieth century. They were sold door-to-door by itinerant photographers who toured the West with special cameras capable of exposing a 360-degree view in a seamless sweep. The photographs were popular with community leaders and businessmen who displayed them as a demonstration of their civic loyalty.
